Skywave Labs, PBC emerges from stealth to incorporate on August 28, 2026, beginning a new chapter in software-defined radar technology.
Founded by MIT Lincoln Laboratory alumnus James Montgomery, Skywave Labs is a first-of-its kind defense accelerator focused on advancing radar, Over the Horizon Radar (OTHR), and High Frequency (HF) technologies. The company positions itself as a technology incubator, combining the agility of a modern tech startup with the domain experience of a defense contractor.
A new generation of defense
Structured as a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), Skywave Labs blends for-profit incentives with the mission driven purpose to advance HF technology and enhance the security of the nation. More than words, this benefit is designed into the governance of the company to ensure it is advanced and upheld:
To advance Over the Horizon Radar (OTHR) and High Frequency (HF) technologies, promote HF technology through open source and commercial development, and to improve the defensive capabilities of the United States for the public good.
